On sets of points that determine only acute angles
We show that for every integer d there is a set of points in E of size Ω (( 2 √ 3 )d√ d ) , such that every angle determined by three points in the set is smaller than π/2. This improves the best known lower bound by a Θ( √ d) factor.
متن کاملFinding Points in General Position
We study the General Position Subset Selection problem: Given a set of points in the plane, find a maximum-cardinality subset of points in general position. We prove that General Position Subset Selection is NP-hard, APX-hard, and present several fixed-parameter tractability results for the problem.
متن کاملSome points on generalized open sets
The paper is an attempt to represent a study of limit points, boundary points, exterior points, border, interior points and closure points in the common generalized topological space. This paper takes a look at the possibilities of an extended topological space and it also considers the new characterizations of dense set.
متن کاملOn Separating Points by Lines
Given a set P of n points in the plane, its separability is the minimum number of lines needed to separate all its pairs of points from each other. We show that the minimum number of lines needed to separate n points, picked randomly (and uniformly) in the unit square, is Θ̃(n), where Θ̃ hides polylogarithmic factors. In addition, we provide a fast approximation algorithm for computing the separa...
متن کاملSets of Points with Many Halving Lines
We used a genetic search algorithm to find sets of points with many halving lines. There are sets of 10 points with 13 halving lines, 12 points with 18 halving lines, 14 points with 22 halving lines, 16 points with 27 halving lines, and 18 points with 32 halving lines. We find a construction generalizing the 12 point configuration and show that, for any n = 3 · 2, there are configurations of n ...
